What is CBD? How does it work? What are the benefits for me? Is it legal?

These are all questions that are coming from a majority of the public due to the increased misinformation being circulated throughout the media and news.

So What Is CBD?

CBD (cannabinoid) is a chemical compound that is unique to the Cannabis plant.

These Cannabinoidiol compounds working along with other compounds referred to as Terpenes have shown therapeutic benefits in cooperation with our Endocannabinoid system (ECS)

Our Endocannabinoid system is a part of the molecular regulatory systems in our body.

ECS plays a large roll in our ability to relax and destress, digestion and circulation functionality, sleeping, inflammation and even cognitive function.

In reality, your ECS is responsible for ensuring your entire body is working optimally.

Our body contains 2 types of cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2), but they are most abundant in your brain and immune system. This system wants to maintain balance, called homeostasis.

In our instinctual efforts of our ECS to create homeostasis, our body leverages tools in the form of nutrients and compounds from everything we put into our body.

This special set of nutrients called Cannabinoids promote homeostasis at every level of biological life, from the sub-cellular to each organism.

And CBD works as a switch that turns on our ECS to promote balance.

Cannabidiol is extracted from flowers & buds of marijuana or hemp plants, “Cannabis”. It does not produce intoxication; marijuana’s “stoned” effect is caused by the chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

For a lot of patients, one of the major challenges with cannabis is its mind-bending nature. CBD is often seen as a solution because the cannabinoid does not produce the euphoric qualities of THC.

For many patients and medical professionals, this makes CBD a preferable candidate as a potential cannabis medicine

Why use CBD products?

Follow the latest Health craze, along with advances in dietary supplements for optimum health and wellness you may have already heard of CBD products. Even if you have never seen a cannabis plant!

There is increasing research revealing some astonishing evidence shows, adding CBD to your diet can potentially alleviate and help protect against serious conditions, including Rheumatoid arthritis, IBS, heart attacks and strokes.

CBD, pain relief, no side effects.

In June 2018, the FDA approved its first cannabis-derived drug. A new CBD product used in the treatment of 2 rare and severe forms of epilepsy in children.

Federal, as well as, global organizations seem satisfied with research showing consistently positive results about CBD being both safe and effective.

Is CBD legal?

The legal issues, as well as regulation in the US concerning cannabis, has placed CBD and hemp in a complicated grey area due to the fact that at the federal level cannabis is still an illegal substance.

Like it or not, the United States is on its way to legalizing hemp products in some way or another.

Be sure and check local state laws before you purchase any product you may not be allowed to use CBD legally.

I think last I heard there may have only been a couple of states left to do the formalities of the legalization process.

Who knows it could be already done by the time this is posted, and that would mean, it’s legal nationwide like it is here in Canada.

  1. I’m all for CBD oil for other people. I know it has amazing health benefits for many things such as for relieving some of the side effects of chemotherapy, and it is also beneficial to people with Multiple Sclerosis. I know that there are great benefits for depression and anxiety. I’ve also heard it can help with recovery from addiction. Although since I am a recovering alcoholic and drug addict I would personally be hesitant to try it out. It is probably silly of me but the association with Cannabis is just not something that I want to take on myself!

    1. Hi Lynne

I understand your fears and concerns that go along with the name ‘Cannabis’.

Perhaps this just goes to show exactly how effective all the misinformation and demonizing

of Cannabis that was circulated back in the prohibition times actually was.

Like a ‘label’ except this one, not being a good one for such an amazing healing botanical plant.

Maybe it should be marketed as, (Cannabaceae) a botanical healer, instead of the label of ‘Cannabis’ or CBD.

Although, as with any other new medication on the market, If it is required, and is available for prescribing, along with If your doctor feels it may be beneficial for the situation,?

You may end up having it prescribed to you in the future by your own physician.

My suggestion, educate yourself as much as possible before you make any decision concerning ANY new medication.

Thank you for sharing your story.

      Have a Happy Day!  🙂

  2. It seems to me that there are far more potentially dangerous drugs with many more potential side effects that are being prescribed legally every day to patients, besides marijuana or cbd.  There have been many studies that have proven that the effects of thc and cbd can be life changing for many people.  It is also much more affordable than most prescription drugs.  In my opinion I think it is the big drug companies that are fighting to keep marijuana and cbd illegal, but it seems like there is a shift towards legalization.  Just my two cents.

    1. Hello Terry.

Thank you for your input concerning CBD oils. I believe that once the hype settles then, maybe there will

be a little more progress towards better uses for this amazing plant.

It even helps some people who have become dependant on the pharmaceutical meds, to overcome their dependencies.

Guess we just have to wait and see…

      Have a Happy Day. 🙂

  3. The cannabinoid debate will continue, I suppose, for a while yet.  Historically the plant is big-time medicine and has many health benefits that are starting to be explored extensively by the guys in the white lab coats.

For whatever reason, cannabis has been demonized for many years now and all kinds of hearsay and misinformation abounds.  Maybe with the controversy that continues (as well as the big bucks to be made off it) there will be a change in the laws.

Like every other touted panacea, mighty claims have been made about cannabinoid’s good and bad effects.  Of course, it’s going to be “exploited.”  But, maybe, too, its real benefits will also be used to effectively deal with gnarly problems that continue to plague us.

    We can hope….

    1. Hello Netta.

Yes,  i do believe this debate will endure for a spell, and it is all the

more extreme because of the villain opinions imposed on the Cannabis plant.

This is the reason for learning as much as I can and help others to learn as well.

Some patients are left with no other options when pharmaceutical meds don’t work for us.

Thank you for your input about the subject.

The future is promising from here.

      Have a Happy Day  🙂
